YIT Lietuva, a sustainable cities and infrastructure development company, is launching a new project in Klaipėda State Seaport – it will reconstruct a yard belonging to LKAB “Klaipėdos Smeltė” at Nemuno St. 139 on a custom-made basis. The works, worth more than 3.5 million euros excluding VAT, are planned to be completed by the end of this year.
The yard is a significant part of logistics infrastructure
During the reconstruction, a new 16,200 sq. m. three-layer asphalt surface with a reinforced cemented base will be installed. This yard is intended for additional container storage – it is planned to accommodate more than 3,000 containers.
“The development of modern logistics infrastructure is of great importance not only for the competitiveness of the port of Klaipėda, but also for the economy of the entire country. We are pleased that we can contribute to this process with our experience and engineering expertise. We plan to carry out the work intensively, clearly understanding the short term and the importance of the facility for the operating company,” says Kęstutis Vanagas, CEO of YIT Lietuva.
Not only a new coating, but also expanded engineering infrastructure
The project provides for the installation of modern infrastructure - two 25-meter and four 40-meter high lighting supports with 11-meter deep foundations. 180-meter-long slotted gutters will be installed to collect rainwater, capable of withstanding a wheel load of up to 90 tons. Rainwater, water supply and domestic wastewater networks will also be built, the total length of which will be about 1 kilometer.
“After implementing the planned works, we hope not only to improve storage capacities, but also to ensure more efficient container ship loading, thus strengthening the competitiveness of Klaipėdos Smeltė in the ocean ship loading market. This is not the first time we have chosen YIT Lietuva – a few years ago, this company installed about 80 thousand sq. m of container storage yards, installed underground engineering networks and yard lighting. We are confident that the accumulated experience and expertise of this contractor will ensure the success of this project,” says Rimantas Juška, General Director of LKAB Klaipėdos Smeltė.
Considering the proximity of nearby residential areas, it is planned to install an 8.5-meter-high and 260-meter-long noise-absorbing wall at the site, which will reduce noise and dust dispersion from the port company’s activities, thus ensuring a better quality of life in neighboring territories.
The reconstruction project was prepared by the company UAB "NTH PROJEKTAI".
