YIT Lietuva completes the construction of a modern EKSMA Optics laser components plant in Vilnius

The construction of a new optical equipment plant of the laser technology company EKSMA Optics has been completed in Keramikų Street, Vilnius. The sustainable urban development and construction company YIT Lietuva built a modern 7.3 thousand sq m area plant with the most advanced engineering systems and adapted to the customer's needs for 8.2 mln. euros. It is planned that by the year 2025 the new plant will double the production volume of one of the leading laser technology companies.

Extremely high requirements were applied to the plant, built on the outskirts of Vilnius according to the build-to-suit model, and it is equipped with engineering solutions that ensure the required cleanliness class and microclimate in the premises. The engineering systems adapted to high-tech production account for more than half of the total value of the building.

"The achievements of the Lithuanian laser sector are well known and highly valuated all over the world, and its contribution to the country's economy is constantly growing. In order to use the full potential of the Lithuanian high-tech sector it is important that the companies operating in this sector can use modern infrastructure, research and production capacities that meet their needs. We are happy that we can contribute to the expanding customer's capabilities with our experience, competencies and technologies, ”says Kęstutis Vanagas, the General Manager of YIT Lietuva.

According to K. Vanagas, the design works of the plant construction and engineering systems were provided simultaneously. The principles of BIM technology were used to implement those works. They helped to avoid unforeseen disruptions, to deal effectively with the compatibility of architectural and engineering solutions, and to implement the project smoothly, qualitatively and in a timely manner.

“The production of laser components is not mass-produced. It needs not only highly qualified staff, but also specially equipped premises. Our production is provided in an extremely clean environment, and certain processes require the control of not only the amount of dust particles in the air, but also the air temperature and humidity. This also led to specific requirements for the building, which were fully met by our chosen contractor. We are really satisfied with the cooperation and the way the work was organized, the challenges that were solved independently, the deadlines that were met”, says Daugirdas Kuzma, Head of Marketing and Business Development at EKSMA Optics.

According to D. Kuzma, the need for the new plant was determined by the rapid development of the company and the desire to concentrate its production in one place. So far, the company has used several different premises in Vilnius for research and production, the total area of which is about 2 thousand sq metres. From now on, the production of optical and electro-optical laser components, laser optics and crystal coatings, assembly of systems and assemblies and research will be implemented in one place. The new building for the EKSMA Optics development should be sufficient until the year 2025, when the company's sales volumes are planned to reach 25 million euros. The company is moving into the new building next spring.

The company EKSMA Optics annually exports its products to 50-60 countries around the world.

YIT Lietuva is also currently implementing the construction project of the German company Rehau plant in Klaipėda FEZ, building a furniture plant in Kaunas FEZ, carrying out the conversion and the construction of a new plant of Kauno Baldai buildings, and building Naujasis Skansenas Ž business centre in Vilnius, accomplishing the reconstruction of the Vilnius Poles‘ House of Culture and is implementing other contracting projects.
