The sustainable urban and infrastructure development and construction company YIT Lietuva will undertake the reconstruction of one of the busiest streets in Vilnius. The company will carry out a major overhaul of the section of Ozo Street from Akropolis to PC Ozas on behalf of Vilnius City Municipality. The value of the planned works reaches 520 thousand. euros.

During the reconstruction, the section of Ozo Street between Gelvonų and Kernavės Streets will be widened by installing an additional bus and special transport lane. Traffic at the intersection at PC Ozas will also be reorganized. A traffic light will be installed here, as well as the reversal through the dividing strip will be eliminated.

At the same time, the pedestrian and bicycle paths in the section of the street will be arranged, and the lighting will be modernized. 330 trees and 1,700 shrubs will be planted in the dividing section of the traffic lanes.

“Ozo Street is an extremely important part of the Vilnius city road network, on which the traffic situation in the northern part of the capital largely depends. Extremely high traffic intensity is recorded on this street, one of the main traffic trajectories in the city stretches here, nearby there are residential attractions, residential quarters and business centers. Further development of this part of the city is planned in the future, construction of objects of strategic importance is planned nearby. Therefore, it is very important that the surrounding infrastructure is adapted to the needs of today and tomorrow, ”says Kęstutis Vanagas, the head of YIT Lietuva.

According to K. Vanago, the installation of an additional traffic lane on the street will increase the capacity of cars and ensure better connections with this part of the city by public transport. At the same time, it will reduce particulate matter and CO2 pollution, time spent in congestion, and contribute to improving the quality of life of Vilnius residents. A traffic light-controlled intersection will ensure efficient regulation of traffic flows and thus reduce the number of traffic accidents.
